Supported Living

Developmental disabilities are those which begin at any point during an individual’s developmental years up to the age of 22 and may be related to conditions such as autism, cerebral palsy, Fragile X syndrome, Down syndrome, or others. People with developmental disabilities often have difficulty with major life activities such as language, mobility, learning, and the self-help skills needed to live independently.

In South Carolina, LSC has residences where adults with intellectual or developmental disabilities can receive the person-centered care and support they need to become as productive and independent as possible. Categorized as Community Training Homes (CTH) by the South Carolina Department of Disabilities and Special Needs, these homes are staffed by professional caregivers who help residents improve their daily living, social, and vocational skills, while enjoying comfortable homes in very typical residential neighborhoods. LSC’s Community Training Homes include, in Columbia, Myers Crest, Rose Cliff, Stone Haven, Westridge, Harmony House and Aull Place. Additionally, LSC operates two Community Training Homes in Darlington: Briar Cliff and Briar Gate.

LSC also offers host homes across the state of South Carolina. A host home is a private home where an individual with an intellectual and/or developmental disability can receive individualized support and services from a host family in their home, similar to the foster care model. Host families are recruited and trained by LSC and undergo a rigorous licensing process.
